Foster Parent Recruitment
|
Family conflict sometimes results in a young person running away from home or being kicked out of the home by his or her parents. When this happens, WYO works with local police and the family to resolve the crisis. In some cases the youth involved cannot return home, and we place him or her temporarily with a foster home in the community.
These private foster care placements may be for a night, a weekend, or longer—even up to a year in special circumstances. If your family wants to get involved in this ministry, here’s what it takes:
- A sense of calling to serve at-risk teens between the ages of 11 and 17.
- Becoming licensed as a private foster care home by the State of Illinois’ Dept. of Children and Family Services (DCFS).
- Being on-call evenings and weekends for emergency placement of displaced youth going through difficult life transitions.
This is a voluntary service, not paid. We do provide our foster care families with a small per diem to help defray the cost of food and utilities due to having another person in the home.
